Once again, there’s been a great response on social media to this week’s Quick Read asking which films you went into with low/no expectations but ended up enjoying.
Thanks to everyone who offered their suggestions, the full list is below and, frankly, it’s an amazing, eclectic mix…
- Eighth Grade
- Florence Foster Jenkins
- A Monster Calls
- Moonrise Kingdom
- Vivacious Lady
- The Great Waldo Pepper
- Hidden Figures
- Big Fish
- His Girl Friday
- Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping
- Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse
- Dog Day Afternoon
- Fight Club
- Buffy The Vampire Slayer
- Night Of The Living Dead
- The Sound Of Music
- The Innocents
- Red State
- Fast 5
- Zack Snyder’s Justice League
- Deep Rising
- Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle
- Run Lola Run
This has definitely been one of the most fascinating weeks in terms of the sheer variety of films and genres people have responded with, and I’m so happy to see such a wide range of suggestions.
How many film lists would see a Kevin Smith film about religious extremism stand shoulder to shoulder with a Ginger Rogers/James Stewart romantic comedy, Spider-Man hanging out with Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant, or Julie Andrews’ singing nun proving an equal to superheroes and zombies?
I moan about social media a lot, but when it comes to this kind of thing, I think it can be a really positive resource, so if you helped contribute this week, thanks so much!
It’s been a big week for LateReviewer.com as we published the 12th Late Review, sailed past the 40,000 word count, and took steps to develop some new ideas behind the scenes which I’m really looking forward to sharing.
Until next time though, keep reading, keep watching, and keep in touch on Twitter, Facebook and in the comments!
