A few thoughts on The Film With No Name

Bit of an unusual piece, this one, as it’s not exactly a review or a feature, rather it’s a little look at an upcoming project I was lucky enough to see recently – The Film With No Name.

Now, as the film is still a work in progress (it was shown with rough VFX, a temp score and in need of ADR in places), I’m obviously going to stay as spoiler-free as possible while going into a little detail about the story and hopefully leaving you curious to see it yourself.

A couple of fun cameo appearances

There’s an argument that any cameo you notice could pull you out of the film and ruin your viewing experience, and there’s a truth to that.

In my opinion though, there’s a time and a place for a great cameo – and they often work best in films that might not take themselves too seriously.

That’s what we’re looking at with this week’s Quick Read… and one that might not have aged so well.

By The Decade: What’s Next?

When I started Late Reviewer, my intention was to channel all the negativity I’d been feeling during the pandemic into something positive and creative, and engage with a new community on social media.

While it hasn’t quite rid me of all my negative energy, I’ve been delighted with the response to the site on social media (Twitter especially) – I’ve had really nice chats with really nice people on all things film, but the response to the weekly By The Decade pieces have been particularly overwhelming.

A few thoughts on Censor (2021)

As this post is dealing with a brand new film, it’s not technically a Late Review – which means there won’t be any spoilers to worry about!

Tonight, I visited the cinema for the first time since March 2020, for a screening of Censor (2021) – a film I knew virtually nothing about.

I’ve deliberately avoided trailers, articles and interviews about the movie, and knew only that it dealt in some way with the Video Nasty era and could be considered a horror movie.

It’s difficult to say too much about the plot without giving anything away. Not that it’s a constant domino effect of trickery and surprises, I just think it’s better to go into this film as cold as possible and let the atmosphere pull you in.

And it’ll do that.
