By The Decade: 5 From The… Teenies?

First thing’s first, I wasn’t sure what to call this decade, so teenies it is. If anyone has a better suggestion, I’ll use it for the reader recommendations.

If you been following By The Decade for the last few weeks, you know how this works – they don’t necessarily have to be the best films of the decade, or even your favourites, just films that mean something to you.

You can catch up from the 1930s to the 2000s right here, and I’ll add this week’s reader recommendations over the weekend.

Until then, here are my five selections from the 2010s…

By The Decade: Your Films Of The Noughties

Pretty great response to the penultimate By The Decade, but then I shouldn’t have expected anything less – well done, everybody!

If you’ve missed the By The Decade story to date, click here for all of my suggestions and the recommendations of all our readers from the 1930s to the 2000s.

Speaking of the 2000s, here are some of the best films of that decade according to Late Reviewer readers…

By The Decade: 5 From The Noughties

After a couple of bumper weeks for By The Decade (who knew the readers of film blogs would have such great affection for movies of the 1980s and 1990s?!), we’ve arrived at the turn of the 21st Century.

To keep things a little neater, I’ve chosen five films from the 2000s, and as always they’re not the best films of the decade, but films I enjoyed or have a connection with.

You can catch up with every By The Decade entry so far – from the 1930s to the 1990s – right here, but for now, let’s get into the noughties…

A few thoughts on Censor (2021)

As this post is dealing with a brand new film, it’s not technically a Late Review – which means there won’t be any spoilers to worry about!

Tonight, I visited the cinema for the first time since March 2020, for a screening of Censor (2021) – a film I knew virtually nothing about.

I’ve deliberately avoided trailers, articles and interviews about the movie, and knew only that it dealt in some way with the Video Nasty era and could be considered a horror movie.

It’s difficult to say too much about the plot without giving anything away. Not that it’s a constant domino effect of trickery and surprises, I just think it’s better to go into this film as cold as possible and let the atmosphere pull you in.

And it’ll do that.

By The Decade: Your Recommendations From The 1990s

There’s been another great response to this week’s By The Decade, and the recommendations cover pretty much every genre you can think of!

I got the impression that if it was tough to choose a shortlist of films from the 1970s and 1980s, the 1990s was even harder. Doubly so if you were trying to avoid the blockbusters, but you guys managed it with some really great suggestions.

As always, you can catch up with all of the By The Decade pieces in their very own section of the site, but here are the recommendations you lovely people offered for movies from the 1990s.

By The Decade: 9 From The Nineties

Here we go with another By The Decade post to help broaden my cinematic horizons and welcome your recommendations from a specific era – the last two weeks especially have thrown out some really great suggestions, and I think this one will be great too.

Following the previous 3 From The 30s4 From The 40s5 From The 50s6 From The 60s, 7 From The 70s and 8 From The 80s posts, we’ve had brilliant suggestions from readers for their favourite films from the 1930sthe 1940sthe 1950sthe 1960s, the 1970s, and the 1980s.

I’ll be honest, the choices I’ve made this week are not my favourite films from that decade, they’re certainly not the best films of the decade, and I’m well aware they’re incredibly mainstream and obvious.

I guess that’s a disclaimer of sorts, but this isn’t a judgemental place, so feel free to shout up with some of your top films from the 1990s, whether you feel they’re respected or not!

By The Decade: Your Favourite Films Of The 1980s

Well I thought last week’s look at the cinema of the 1970s featured some great (and difficult) choices, but this week’s By The Decade turned out to be just as tricky.

Whether it’s something to do with the demographics on social media, or just certain films being cultural touchstones, I don’t know. More to the point, I don’t really care, because there are some tremendous films on here, including some I had simply never heard of but would love to seek out.

You can catch up on all the previous By The Decade entries here, but right now, let’s look at your choices from the 1980s!
